Paddle a Class II River, stop at a nice beach, build a hot fire and roast some wieners! What a fun way to spend a winter day! Joint trip with Washington Kayak Club.
Location is coordinator‘s-choice and will be weather-dependent. Dynamic flowing water, such as shorelines of Puget Sound or Class 1+ rivers. Suitable for canoes or sea kayaks.
This is a super fun section of river with a little bit of everything. This is mostly Class II or II+ with good surfing ops and an exciting ledge drop (Class III but straight forward) in the middle.
We‘ll explore the harbor and go check out the naval ships at Bremerton
For anyone interested in coordinating trips, this class will cover the basics. This course will be highly interactive and is designed for new trip coordinators or veterans who wish to refresh their skills. The course contents will apply to coordinating paddling trips whether for Paddle Trails, another organization such as Scouting Groups or just friends. I‘ll pick a stretch of river based on water levels. I‘m thinking maybe the Upper Skykomish...
Dress like a leprechaun! Location is coordinator‘s-choice and will be weather-dependent. Dynamic flowing water, such as shorelines of Puget Sound or Class 1+ rivers. Suitable for canoes or sea kayaks.
Launch/landing: Meydenbauer Bay Pk, 98th & Lk Wash Blvd Bellevue and Marsh Pk, 6600 Lk Wash Blvd Kir
Paddle between Meydenbauer Bay in Bellevue and Marsh Park a little south of downtown Kirkland, past some amazing waterfront homes in Medina, Evergreen Point, Hunts Point and Yarrow Point on what promises to be the warmest day of 2024 to date. Wind will determine direction, to be decided late Saturday, but promises to be light no matter what. Short car shuttle. Bring lunch or a snack for a stop in Medina. Total distance about 8 miles.
We’ll plan to paddle from Mukilteo out to Hat Island and see if we can find some whales. Itinerary may flex a little based on whale activity in the days prior. This will be a sea kayak trip, and there might be some wind and waves. If the weather doesn’t look great a few days out, I may reschedule.
We may have a few boats to lend out to keen paddlers who don’t have sea kayaks; check asap if that’s you.

Mandatory minimum distance from gray whales is 100 yards. https://www.bewhalewise.org/
Photos a participant took when I led a similar trip for the Mountaineers 2 years ago. A very long lens was used. https://adobe.ly/36jeqr1
We‘ll be paddling the Class II+ Upper MF Snoqualmie, one of the most beautiful river sections in our area.
Location is coordinator‘s-choice and will be weather-dependent. Dynamic flowing water, such as shorelines of Puget Sound or Class 1+ rivers. Suitable for canoes or sea kayaks.
Winchester Wasteway is a long paddle through a remote section of the Desert Wildlife Area near Moses Lake. Early spring is a great time to see tons of snow geese, large carp racing in the shallows and the emerging desert flora, without all the heat. Water levels are hard to predict because there is no real-time gauge, but it should be a class 1 river with one swift section of a few hundred yards toward the end. Due to the length and remoteness of the paddle it is recommended that you have completed a long (5+ hours) paddle in the past year and be comfortable in moving water.
Dress like a bunny! Location is coordinator‘s-choice and will be weather-dependent. Dynamic flowing water, such as shorelines of Puget Sound or Class 1+ rivers. Suitable for canoes or sea kayaks.
